It’s Flu Season… What Do You Need To Know?

Summer is officially over, and flu season is upon us again!

We all got a little more used to taking precautions when COVID-19 surfaced, but it’s still important to know how best to protect yourself against the flu. Here are our top tips:

  1. Wash your hands

We know, you’ve heard this advice a million times, but it’s still important! You should wash your hands thoroughly and regularly with soap and water. If you aren’t sure if you need to wash them or not, just wash them.

  1. Keep your home and work space clean

Use disinfectants on any surfaces that other people regularly touch – you can pick up the flu by touching contaminated surfaces and then touching your eyes, nose, or mouth so it’s best to clean regularly!

  1. Stay home if you’re sick (and avoid contact with sick people if you’re not)

The flu is very contagious, and you don’t know who around you might be immunocompromised. Don’t be afraid to take time off if you’re sick to rest up and recover! Similarly, try to avoid contact with sick people as much as possible if you’re currently healthy.

  1. Get the flu jab if recommended to do so

The NHS gives free flu vaccinations to people who are recommended to have them, such as over-50s, pregnant people, and those with certain health conditions. If you’re able to get a free vaccine then definitely get one – not only will it help stop the spread, but it will also help prevent you from getting seriously ill.

  1. Consider using extra protection

Unfortunately, none of the above steps are fool-proof against catching a bug. Consider using PPE like a face mask or gloves to give yourself an extra layer of protection this flu season.
